Lesley Chiou of Occidental College and Avigail Kifer of Cornerstone Research coauthored “Free Can Make Cents,” which was named Best Business Article: Digital, in the 2022 Antitrust Writing Awards.

The Awards Editorial Committee shortlisted Professor Chiou and Dr. Kifer’s article from more than 630 submissions in the Business category. Articles were judged by a jury based on writing, scholarship, originality, practical relevance, and the contribution they make to competition advocacy.

In their article, Professor Chiou and Dr. Kifer offer an overview of products that are often priced for “free,” firms’ incentives for employing this pricing structure, and the importance of quality in assessing competition in the supply of “free” products.

The Antitrust Writing Awards are organized by Concurrences Review and the George Washington University Law School Competition Law Center. Winners were announced at a gala dinner at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on April 5, 2022.
