Maximilian Bredendiek consults on financial economics matters involving market manipulation allegations, securities litigation, and valuation. With experience that spans the U.S., UK, and other European jurisdictions, Dr. Bredendiek has analyzed allegations of improper trading, price fixing, misrepresentations and omissions in corporate disclosures, and greenwashing issues. He has assessed damages stemming from alleged breaches of contract and analyzed the valuation of fixed income derivatives, private equity (PE) and venture capital (VC) firms, and PE/VC-backed companies.

Dr. Bredendiek has extensive experience working with large, complex datasets, including market data, trading records, and accounting records. He supports clients and experts in all stages of litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations.

Market manipulation and market microstructure
  • Developing econometric models to analyze alleged spoofing and insider trading in spot and derivative markets for equity, fixed income, and foreign exchange (FX) securities
  • Assessing claims of benchmark manipulation in gasoline and natural gas markets as alleged by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
  • Analyzing antitrust issues and alleged price manipulation in fixed income and FX markets
  • Evaluating security market structure changes proposed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
Securities litigation
  • Analyzing reliance and quantum of damages arguments, identifying sample claimants, and evaluating damages and settlement estimates in relation to claims of untrue or misleading statements or omissions in corporate disclosures
  • Working on claims related to Section 90 and 90A of the UK Financial Services and Markets Act 2000; analyzing similar shareholder claims in other European countries; consulting on Rule 10b‑5 matters in the U.S.

  • Analyzing claims of economic harm arising from alleged breaches of contract in the electronics and pharmaceutical industries
  • Estimating the value of different fixed income derivatives held by financial institutions as well as U.S. and European mutual funds
  • Assessing the valuation of both general and limited partner interests in PE/VC firms and PE/VC-backed companies using option pricing methods
